Battle of the Stamps #4: children's books + double give away!

Then, this is battle #4 (and give away #2, but more on that later): children's books. I had a bit of a problem. Last battle was about your favourite book. And my favourite book, well, is a children's book. I had a long hard think about it (and had a long hard look in the cupboard) and found: Klieuw! A book I received as a gift from my Dutch student over in Australia when we left. I would have never bought it myself. But it's wonderful. I read it to my students each year (doesn't really matter which grade you teach). They always love it. They always think it ends too quickly. They always wish it was a longer story.

Klieuw! is a wonderful book. Klieuw is the name of a seagull. The story is about how he is born and how he grows up. The drawings in the book are simple but lovely. But the story behind the book is much much better.

The writer, Niko Tinbergen, was held hostage during the Second World War by the Germans. This is where he wrote the book. But not as a book. Each week he would write and draw to his three children at home. When the war was over they made it into a book. Niko Tinbergen, by the way, is a Nobel price winner for his research on seagulls (and small fish).
